We need to have more discussion about this, especially how you talked about how so many survivors may not come right out and tell you their history, and some may not even remember. I shared my story about how this impacted my births and about how that started me on my road to healing in my book The Birth of Magdalena. I like in your article how it points out that with the right support birth can be so empowering. I also offer Continuing Education workshops for care providers including doulas, midwives and massage therapists. We all need to practice some of these universal tools like compassionate listening because everyone that you interact with has a story, and you never know what they are going through or have gone through.

It would be helpful if you would ally with women who are sexual abuse survivors by 1) Providing some information, however limited it might be, on finding respectful care providers who will act as you recommend or otherwise in an appropriate/respectful manner. 2) How women can appropriately ask for the things you say- particularly permission asking- from medical or nursing professionals in a way that’s more likely to get results from those professionals rather than provoking anger or defensiveness. Thanks again for your good work.
