Being able to respect and value different religions and cultures and provide compassionate care for every woman and family, regardless of where they come from, what they believe in and what their family looks like is the core of nursing. What a moving reminder of who we are as nurses and our power – no technology or computer can replace a nurse at the bedside for labor & birth!

I am especially happy to ready about the presence of a qualify interpreter in the room to be the conduit for the communication going between all parties. Thank you for sharing and for make me keep the sparkle of faith that my belief of being a nurse means no only to care and to be present, sensitive to my patient’s needs but to be wholehearted and invested in the full wellbeing of them!

Thanks so much for your wonderful comment, Lisa. I really hope that despite all the benefits and advantages of innovative technologies in modern medicine- the human connection, empathy and “high-touch” are always going to be at the core of nursing practice!

In the world of high-risk ad high-tech we sometimes forget the importance of “high-touch” – thanks for the inspiring reminder!
