I had a uterine rupture 2 months ago, don’t ever think it can’t happen to you. Luckily for my son and I were are healthy but it could have been scary. I would never deter a woman from TOLAC but I think they should educate more, although that wouldn’t have stopped me from my TOLAC because I wanted a VBAC so bad. Not bad enough to put myself or my son in danger so when there were a few heart rate decels and “weird” contractions on the monitor I opted for my RCS as no one knew I was beginning to rupture, which while in the OR my uterus did completely rupture. I now have 2 scars on my uterus and as much as I wanted my VBAC I am so happy we came out healthy.

Excellent article Bree! I have been in high-risk OB for most of my career… Can’t imagine anything else! You touch on many great points! I personally have had experience- my best friend-Had an undiagnosed marginal previa with her first resulting in an emergency C/S with her first and then had a successful VBAC with twins 2 years later followed by one more vaginal! It’s rare as you said but can be done. In my almost 20 yr history I’ve only seen a few uterine ruptures and only one resulting in a bad outcome. That was in the early days of miso when we didn’t have great parameters for induction. This was a grand multiple of 10 or so with a history of fast labors.
